Professional cleaning

Tartar, which develops in a different amount, colour and composition for everyone, is not only an Tartar removal and cleaningaesthetic problem, but can also be the cause of serious gum disease. Thus, tarttar removal is highly important.

What is tartar?

When eating, a thin, hardly visible layer of plaque develops on the surface of teeth, dentures, and implants, which constitutes mainly of dissolved food remnants. This plaque layer provides an excellent environment for bacteria. Over time, the minerals in our saliva make the plaque harden and finally calcify. This calcified plaque is what we call tartar.

Prevention and tartar removal

Regular brushing that lasts for at least three minutes and special toothpastes can prevent, or at least moderate tartar buildup.

If tartar still builds up, it is best to have it removed as soon as possible, even multiple times a year. It is important to keep in mind that tartar removal is the job of a professional.

At our dental clinics, professional dental cleaning is done with the help of an ultrasound machine with various attachments. If necessary, manual tools are also employed. Following the removal, the teeth are polished to decrease the chance of tartar building up again on the now smoother surface. In more severe cases, a diode laser is used as well to treat the gum line.
